AI Lab: Prompting 101

Great AI results don't happen by accident—they start with better prompts.
In this hands-on lab, Richard "Professor T" Tillies, Department Head of Computer Programming & Information Sciences at Wake Technical Community College, will introduce attendees to the fundamentals of effective prompting and show how small changes in the way you communicate with AI can dramatically improve the quality of your results.

Participants will learn a practical framework for building stronger prompts using Persona, Task, Context, and Format (PTCF). Through interactive exercises and real-world business scenarios, attendees will practice transforming vague requests into clear, actionable prompts that produce more accurate, useful, and reliable outputs.
The session will also explore common AI pitfalls, including hallucinations, ambiguity, and overreliance on AI-generated content, helping participants become more informed and responsible AI users.

What You'll Learn:
• Why prompt quality directly impacts AI output quality
• The Persona, Task, Context, and Format (PTCF) prompting framework
• How to reduce hallucinations and improve accuracy
• Practical prompting techniques for business, marketing, HR, operations, and everyday productivity
• Simple strategies for turning AI into a more effective work partner

Ideal For:
Professionals, managers, entrepreneurs, educators, students, and anyone looking to improve their ability to communicate effectively with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot.

Format: Interactive lab with hands-on exercises, group activities, and real-world prompt improvement challenges.
